While the single player campaign offers enough challenge when played properly, a decent online match can’t be topped. There is some satisfaction to scoping in on the mask of an actual player, knowing that you have the element of surprise. Fighting AI gets boring. Even in Crysis, the KPA troops become a little predictable. But pitting your skills against those of other people… and winning? It feels good. And it’s never the same from one match to the next.

If you see me online, don’t hesitate to give me a shout. I’ll shoot anyone once. ;)

Happy gaming,

Activating your GOC mod

Welcome back.

I’ve been getting requests to put up a post on how to download, install, and activate the Crysis – GOC Modification. This is that post.

To begin, you’ll want the download. I prefer to get my Crysis mods from Crymod – you can find a huge variety of mods and add-ons here. This is a direct download link: GOC/BT. (in the unlikely event of a link-failure, check here)

Remember to save it in a location you can easily access. Once the download is complete, open it up and you should be guided through the installation process. This does all the legwork for you, you don’t need to drag around files or mess around with the Crysis folders.

This shouldn’t take too long either. Once done, load up Crysis. In the initial menu on the left, there is a “Mods” section. Open it up and you should get a list of any mods you’ve installed. If this is the first mod you’ve set up, it should be the only one on the list, and thus already selected. Otherwise, search it out, and select it. From there you simply hit the big “Load mod” button and the game will restart with said mod activated.

It’ll instantly enable the two features of the mod (Bullet time and GOC over-the-shoulder view) in the single player campaign.

…Content may vary during online play. By this, I mean that although it is possible to play online with this mod loaded, you will only be able to play with people who have the same mod active. Normally there are little to no servers online with GOC/BT loaded. Also, the bullet time feature doesn’t slow time online, only the GOC view works.

Effectively, this was designed to improve single-player mode. And what an improvement.

I hope this was what you were all looking for.

Until next time, Happy gaming!

Crysis – GOC Mod

Welcome to the first section of my Crysis Strategy series.

The GOC Mod Nanosuit Control interface.

| Gears of Crysis interface - anomalygames |

To start with I just want to let you all know that while I’m playing, filming short videos and snapping wonderful screenshots, I’m using the Crysis GOC (Gears of Crysis) modification. This mod adds two features to the in-game suit controls- Bullet Time and an over-the-shoulder view. Altogether this makes for some pretty awesome gameplay.

As you can see to the right, two more nanosuit options are added in.

BT – Bullet time slows everything down, so you can perfect almost any situation.

GOC – Gears of Crysis is the over-the-shoulder view mode. This option toggles between this and the first person view.

You can easily find this mod in the Singleplayer section on Crymod.com.

This was just a ‘heads-up’, although it shouldn’t affect strategies too much.

Well, to be honest, with this mod active you won’t ever want to hide in a hedge again. It gives you a real chance to be out in the open, in the middle of the action. You’ll be leaping over sandbag barricades, shotgun in hand, and landing among a handful of hostiles – With the Bullet Time addition, you’ll be done in seconds. :)

This game modification is likely to inspire some players to adopt a more “bad-ass” playing-style (for lack of a better term) as you need less reaction time – sneaking around will actually seem insanely boring. :)

The next post will be all about getting the most out of Contact, the first level in the single player story-mode. There are plenty of opportunities to have a decent laugh while slicing your way through the KPA contingent put before you!

Another plus-point: This mod makes the shotgun useful. The shotgun has always been there, an almost futile weapon amongst the large variety of what seemed like a clearly superior arsenal. With Gears of Crysis loaded, this is probably the most enjoyable weapon to have with you on your travels. In bullet time you have increased reaction speed, and in the GOC view it looks that much cooler.

More shall be revealed in the coming post.

Until then, enjoy. Happy gaming!
